The Hangman

Into our town the Hangman came,
Smelling of gold and blood and flame.
And he paced our bricks with a diffident air,
And built his frame in the courthouse square.
The scaffold stood by the courthouse side,
Only as wide as the door was wide;
A frame as tall, or little more,
Than the capping sill of the courthouse door.
And we wondered, whenever we had the time,
Who the criminal, what the crime
That the Hangman judged with the yellow twist
of knotted hemp in his busy fist.
And innocent though we were, with dread,
We passed those eyes of buckshot lead --
Till one cried: "Hangman, who is he
For whom you raised the gallows-tree?"
Then a twinkle grew in the buckshot eye,
And he gave us a riddle instead of reply:
"He who serves me best," said he,
"Shall earn the rope of the gallows-tree."
And he stepped down, and laid his hand
On a man who came from another land.
And we breathed again, for another's grief
At the Hangman's hand was our relief
And the gallows-frame on the courthouse lawn
By tomorrow's sun would be struck and gone.
So we gave him way, and no one spoke,
Out of respect for his Hangman's cloak.
The next day's sun looked mildly down
On roof and street in our quiet town,
And stark and black in the morning air
Was the gallows-tree in the courthouse square.
And the Hangman stood at his usual stand
With the yellow hemp in his busy hand;
With his buckshot eye and his jaw like a pike
And his air so knowing and business-like.
And we cried, "Hangman, have you not done
Yesterday, with the foreign one?"
Then we fell silent, and stood amazed,
"Oh, not for him was the gallows raised."
He laughed a laugh as he looked at us:
"Did you think I'd gone to all this fuss
To hang one man? That's a thing I do
To stretch a rope when the rope is new."
Then one cried "Murder!" and one cried "Shame!"
And into our midst the Hangman came
To that man's place. "Do you hold," said he,
"with him that was meant for the gallows-tree?"
And he laid his hand on that one's arm.
And we shrank back in quick alarm!
And we gave him way, and no one spoke
Out of fear of his Hangman's cloak.
That night we saw with dread surprise
The Hangman's scaffold had grown in size.
Fed by the blood beneath the chute,
The gallows-tree had taken root;
Now as wide, or a little more,
Than the steps that led to the courthouse door,
As tall as the writing, or nearly as tall,
Halfway up on the courthouse wall.
The third he took -- we had all heard tell --
Was a usurer, and an infidel.
"What," said the Hangman "have you to do
With the gallows-bound, and he a Jew?"
And we cried out, "Is this one he
Who has served you well and faithfully?"
The Hangman smiled: "It's a clever scheme
to try the strength of the gallows-beam."
The fourth man's dark, accusing song
Had scratched our comfort hard and long;
"And what concern," he gave us back.
"Have you for the doomed -- the doomed and Black?"
The fifth. The sixth. And we cried again,
"Hangman, Hangman, is this the man?"
"It's a trick," he said. "that we hangmen know
For easing the trap when the trap springs slow."
And so we ceased, and asked no more,
As the Hangman tallied his bloody score.
And sun by sun, and night by night,
The gallows grew to monstrous height.
The wings of the scaffold opened wide
Till they covered the square from side to side;
And the monster cross-beam, looking down,
Cast its shadow across the town.
Then through the town the Hangman came,
Through the empty streets, and called my name --
And I looked at the gallows soaring tall,
And thought, "There is no one left at all
For hanging, and so he calls to me
To help pull down the gallows-tree."
So I went out with right good hope
To the Hangman's tree and the Hangman's rope.
He smiled at me as I came down
To the courthouse square through the silent town.
And supple and stretched in his busy hand
Was the yellow twist of the hempen strand.
And he whistled his tune as he tried the trap,
And it sprang down with a ready snap --
And then with a smile of awful command
He laid his hand upon my hand.
"You tricked me. Hangman!," I shouted then,
"That your scaffold was built for other men...
And I no henchman of yours," I cried,
"You lied to me, Hangman. Foully lied!"
Then a twinkle grew in the buckshot eye,
"Lied to you? Tricked you?" he said. "Not I.
For I answered straight and I told you true --
The scaffold was raised for none but you.
For who has served me more faithfully
Then you with your coward's hope?" said he,
"And where are the others who might have stood
Side by your side in the common good?"
"Dead," I whispered. And amiably
"Murdered," the Hangman corrected me:
"First the foreigner, then the Jew...
I did no more than you let me do."
Beneath the beam that blocked the sky
None had stood so alone as I.
The Hangman noosed me, and no voice there
Cried "Stop!" for me in the empty square.

A new interpretation on the 2012 Olympics logo

Oh, that bloody logo again. Apparently it now spells out a racist word.

IRAN threatened to pull out of the London 2012 Olympic Games, saying the event's already controversial logo is racist and spells the word "Zion," the ILNA news agency reported today.

Wait, what? How is the word "Zion" racist? If it said "Zionism is brilliant and everything else is really crap" then I could maybe see racist overtones, though we need to remember that free speech thing. If the clever sod who got paid - and this is reason enough for someone to fucking apologise - four hundred grand for that wants to make it a statement supporting Zion he can, and he can be far more open about it if he wants. And everyone else can tell him what they think of it. Mind you, they've been doing that anyhow.

So do they ban everything that mentions "Zion"? No Bob Marley singing Iron Lion Zion? No Lauren Hill or David Bowie? Has Iranian culture benefited by avoiding the Matrix sequels?* Well, yeah actually, but not necessarily because of the Zion references. Just being western is enough by the sounds of things.

And anyway, how the hell do you get "Zion" from that logo in the first place? Headaches and epileptic fits I can just about believe, and nausea and incoherent rage more or less go without saying. But "Zion"? Seriously? It must be some fucking effort if they're only just kicking off about it three and half years after the eyesore was launched to at the public.

Jesus, you're really really got to want to see it, haven't you? And of course none of that effort with rearranging and rotating the bits is needed for the older blowjob interpretation.

So what are we supposed to believe? That the logo is representative of a shadowy Zion obsessed felationist conspiracy or a fellatio obsessed Zionist conspiracy? And what would be the point? To so offend Iranian sensibilities that they have no option but to boycott the games, and thus removing any opportunity for Iran to claim a victory over the west as their star athletes explode out of the blocks?** Because they didn't do a very good job of it if it's taken nearly four years for the intended recipient to spot it.

I fancy a laugh. Shall we tell the Iranians that Cockslot and Manlove (or Fucknuts and Anal if you prefer Obonoxio's nicknames) are subtle digs at the revolution and ayatollahs? Just to see what they do? I'm happy to supply some of the stones.

* Which just goes to show how hard it is for any country's government to have absolutely no redeeming features at all, though I bet Kim Terminally-Ill has both movies on Blu-Ray.
** I'll get me coat.

If you do look at the logo:

you can see that it blatantly states Zion. From a country who's certainly on the target from Israel, the USA and the rest of the west of getting done to it what happened in Iraq, they've every right to be concerned.

All the media hype of Iran bombing Israel is utter bollox. The MSM is merely doing what it does best, lying, as you should most certainly know, in order to continue the 'everybody hates us and wants to destroy us' Israel and Zionism, which ironically, the way they behave pretty much is the truth, down to their own misdoings. From someone who was ignorant and pro Zionist, that is because I am of Nationalist thought and believe people should have their own homeland, to someone who educated himself seriously on Zionism and Judaism and Israel.

Look at the image and see since when did Scotland get so large and round? Look at England at being so thin? And northern Ireland's larger than southern Ireland and completely out of shape. Sure it's a graphic logo, but a blatant logo depicting the word 'ZION'.

As for Bob Marley's Zion, the Christian Zion he speaks of the Zion, the Israel, of the twelve tribes, of which the Jews make up one. He isn't speaking of the non Jewish Jews, the Ashkenazi of Khazar who have as much claim to Israel as the Irish do to China. This is the problem. Israel is an illegal state and the Jews there, that is the non sephardi ones, should fuck off back to Southern Russia, to Birobijan, the land that is the rightful homeland of the Ashkenazi, Zionist, plastic Jews.

Oh, mate, it doesn't. Blatant would be this: "ZION" Look, it can certainly be made to say Zion, but so can a lot of things if you're allowed to move transpose and rotate elements. If you're going to rotate the second two and swap the 0 and 1 you'll find you don't have many ways of writing 2012 that can't be made to do the same thing. I've just had a play with fonts in Pshop to confirm this. So in order for me to believe that this Zion reference is deliberate I must first believe that 2012 was selected deliberately so that the correct combination of numbers would be available, and so we must look at who chose the four year duration Olympiad and who chose the starting year in the modern era. Respectively that would be the ancient Greeks and Pierre de Courbertin, both of whom would have needed to be fairly prescient - extraordinarily so in the case of the Greeks - since they made their choices well before the creation of Israel in 1948 Even de Courbertin had been dead for a decade by then.

There is such a thing as coincidence and sometimes a cigar is no more than a cigar.

Firstly, what media hype about Iran bombing Israel? I don't recall any articles making such a claim. Secondly, what you're saying here is tangential to the point that the 2012 logo can only refer to Zion if forced to by someone determined to see Zion references and, whether valid or not, claim offence. The post was never a comment on Zionism but on offence seeking. As I said, if the LOC wanted to put "Zionism is Brilliant" slap across the middle of the logo they're perfectly free to do just that as far as I'm concerned. Nobody would have to agree but free speech is free or it is not. If something offends, too bad. I'm offended by dozens of things every day, for fuck's sake.

I don't think the numbers are intended to be representative of the countries of the UK either (not that Eire is one anyway - my inner hairy Irishman is very keen that that should be understood). As far as I've been able to find out they symbolise absolutely nothing at all apart from the year in which the games are to take place. And if turns out to be 2013 after all even that will be wrong. xD

Bob Marley, being a Rastafarian, would have been referring to Africa. But again that's exactly my point - is anyone getting worked up about reggae music because of it's supposed Zionist references when they mean something entirely different by it? Almost certainly not. Is the incorrect attribution reason for it being banned (if it is) in Iran? Again, probably not when they just routinely ban much that is western.

My honest opinion, not only do I think it is a total coincidence but I'm quite sure the Iranians know fucking well that it's a total coincidence. But for whatever reason it suits them to make a diplomatic thing out of it in the same way people up and down Britain scream how offended they are at the slightest thing if they think there's either some money or the satisfaction of making everyone else jump through hoops to fix a non-existent issue. If it results in an end to this ridiculous offence seeking comp culture we should probably thank them.

It accepts HTML. Looks like you just missed the closing tag. I've done the same thing dozens of times. You should be able to edit your comments with IntenseDebate, although possibly you need to be registered. Not sure about that, but I can certainly edit my comments if I need to.
